ROSHNI
ACMI is attempting to set up a Advocay group of carers and consumers in Delhi called ROSHNI.
While the group has been active and interactive since 2007, it is yet to be formalised into an organisation.
It is expected to provide Vision and Visibility to the MI lobby across India. This is a big challenge
because it needs a fresh thinking on the existing laws, policies, programs etc.
We are aiming at training a core group to attain this level of excellence that can look beyond the trees
into woods. Most family care givers and MH NGOs are unable to free their thinking from the
day to day needs of the patients. We have to visualise a future when the family base of support
is still more feeble so much so that the support can only be offered by the State within a
rights based frame of law. We need to develop and design policies that can address issues of
the future that are likely to be more rights based than today.
We expect ROSHNI to rise up to it.
